Healthy Football Tailgating Tips as Seen on ABC Chicago

Chicago’s best Weight Loss Coach for Women, Stephanie Mansour, has some ways to “step it up” this football season with your tailgating favorites. Here’s some healthy tailgating recipes and tips for you to follow:

Are you one of those dieters who has a “cheat” day? Is Football Sunday the day where you throw all caution to the wind and gorge at home or at a tailgate? Well, our Health & Fitness Expert Stephanie Mansour from Step It Up with Steph is here to share with us easy ways to cut calories and eat healthy without feeling deprived. Steph is Chicago’s best weight loss coach for women and is a nationally known Health & Fitness Expert.

Steph says that peoples’ mindset can cause them to overeat and sabotage their weightloss goals. Research shows that one “cheat” day can blow your whole diet.

So once we’re in the right frame of mind, what are some easy ways we can cut calories without feeling deprived?

Well, first, let’s talk meats.
o The best meat to eat today is hamburgers. Burgers have a lot of protein and iron, so it’s a bigger bang for your caloric buck than hot dogs. Make a hamburger healthier by wrapping it in lettuce instead of eating the bun.

Next, let’s talk creamy pasta salads and dips.
o Try to avoid the pasta salads and instead make your own bean salad!
o Or, hummus with a little bit of salsa on top is delicious and you can use veggies to dip.

Other tips:
o Tempted by fattening sweets or cookies? Fill up on the other foods, and then “taste” the cookies instead of eating them. Get calories from good, healthy foods and then you won’t be craving the sweets as much.
o Stay hydrated – get over your fear of the port a potty (or is that just me?!) and drink extra water.
• Finally, let’s talk alcohol. Believe it or not, there are ways to not break the calorie bank and make sure you’re feeling good later today or tomorrow.
o Use ½ sparkling water, ½ wine for a spritzer;
o Include a hydrator like coconut water or this new watermelon water when mixing cocktails;
o Drink a glass of water before opening another beer.

– Drinking liquor? Step It Up by keeping it flavor-free and mixing it with 1/2 water or sparkling water & 1/2 juice or soda

– Making or buying creamy dips or salads? Step It Up by dipping with veggies or healthy chips.

– Rule #3: BYOS…Bring Your Own Snack. Have a healthy alternative that you can snack on in case you’re in a pinch.
