How to Burn 150 More Calories During Your Workout as Seen on Today.com

Chicago weight loss coach, Stephanie Mansour, shares 4 Simple Strategies to Burn More Calories During Your Workout.

If you’re trying to slim down and get fit, being smarter about your workouts can make a big impact towards achieving better results. When you aren’t doing what’s necessary to get the most out of your workouts, you may end up wasting precious time by exercising in ways that are not burning calories or fat effectively and efficiently.

In my work as a weight loss coach for women, many of my private weight loss coaching clients often come to me because they are already working out consistently but they aren’t losing weight. For example, they’ll spend 30-minutes on the elliptical machine every day and wonder why the scale won’t budge, despite what they consider to be their best efforts.

But while it’s true that consistent cardio is good for general conditioning and staying healthy, sticking to the same basic exercise routine day-after-day often will not get you the quick satisfying weight loss results you want.

Unfortunately, when you’re disappointed with your progress, there’s a good chance you will start doubting yourself, lose confidence, begin to wonder what the point of working out is, and give up altogether.

I want you to focus on health and overall wellness, but I also understand that you want to see results in the mirror and feel like you’re making progress.

So if you are disappointed with the effectiveness of you workouts, it’s time to kick it up a notch and start incorporating strategies to enhance your workout — burn more calories and fat in less time.

The Step It Up with Steph Signature Slimdown Workout DVD includes a 30-min. high-intensity interval training workout + four 5-minute body-blasting workouts. Get it here.

In a recent article for Today.com, I shared 4 Simple Strategies to Burn More Calories During Your Workout. Just by implementing these simple changes to what you’re already doing, you can burn an extra 150 calories per workout and get fit faster.

The tips I share include boosting your workout by adding short bursts of high-intensity cardio, strapping on ankle weights, strength training with heavy weights, and listening to fast-paced music. Go here to read more.

Spring Clean Your Gym Bag & Your Workout As Seen on ABC Chicago

Our Health & Fitness Expert Stephanie Mansour is here to show us gym bag essentials that are more natural and how to pack a healthier gym bag. She’s also telling us how to know when it’s time to get new running shoes, toss sports bras, and get new workout gear:

No more sugary sports drinks filled with chemicals!
Instead, try WTRMLN WTR’s new BLNDS (blends) line. You can get this at Whole Foods, and it’s loaded with naturally occurring electrolytes making it a cleaner option than your regular sports drink. The cherry BLNDS is great because of the tart cherry benefit: “The Muscle Marathoner””: Tart cherry is proven to support muscle recovery and anti-inflammation.

It’s time to step it up when it comes to your deodorant, too! No more chemicals. PiperWai Natural deodorant is 100% natural made from natural ingredients and activated charcoal.

Who wants to pack a ton of make up in your gym bag? However, washing your face after a workout is essential, so here’s an easy way to re-do your make up. Try to BIY (blend it yourself) when it comes to your foundation and coverage! Clinique’s newest foundation is BIY – blend it yourself!
All their products are allergy tested and these BIY drops can be blended with ANY moisturizer – you can decide how much coverage you want by adding more or less drops. Also, on April 7th at the Macy’s in Oak Brook come see me for a complimentary “perfect match” with BIY pigment drops and confidence boosting tips with me from 1-7!

Next, how do we know when we need to get new running shoes? Every 3-6 months is a good timeline, depending on how much exercise you’re doing. If you feel like you’re starting to get sore or even injured in the lower half of your body, you may need new shoes. It’s important to have good supportive shoes because all of the pressure in high impact cardio gets pounded down through your feet.

Finally, it’s great to get new sports bras every 6-12 months. You can tell when it’s time because the cups may start to sag, or the band around the bottom may get looser!

Foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E.

– Hydration is also very important. Always drink half of your body weight in ounces of water per day. And to step it up even more, try this hydrating watermelon water with ginger by WTRMLN WTR.
Drink up!

– Lentils & beans – try adding more beans into your diet, and if you must eat chips, eat some lentil chips! These contain protein, iron, and more nutrients. These lentil chips by the Daily Crave are my fav.

Almonds are rich in Vitamin E, a natural antioxidant that supports collagen production and provides anti-inflammatory benefits for the body. They also contain omega-3 fatty acids.
So, eat more ALMONDS & WALNUTS!

– Green foods such as spinach, broccoli, kale and collards also contain a good amount of calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Minerals are crucial to the health of your nails, hair and skin. They also contain a lot of iron and B12!

How to Make Your Workouts More Fun As Seen on WNEM TV 5

Getting bored of the same old workout routine? Well we’re here to help you get out of a workout rut on today’s Step It Up with Steph!

I’ve got some easy ways that you can spice things up in your workout.

First, change up your workout! Even though it’s so cold outside, something that I enjoy doing is swimming. You can go to your local gym or anywhere that has an indoor pool. You don’t have to swim fast, or for a long time, but it’s important to change up your workout. You can step it up by listening to music while swimming, too! I was surprised to find out that there are actually underwater music players. Finis Duo is a great MP3 to use while swimming because it has the highest quality sound in the water and syncs with your iTunes music library, too! Music is key to getting you more motivated, and research has proven that listening to upbeat songs encourages you to work out harder and longer.

Speaking of music, change your playlist up and add new songs, or old classic ones that you haven’t listened to in a while! This will get your brain’s attention while you’re working out and keep you focused and in the game! You may be getting bored of your playlist and therefore lagging off on your workout – without even noticing it!

Finally, bring a family member with you or a friend and try out some new equipment or workouts. You can even bring your kid! Change up who you’re working out with so that it’s more of an activity rather than a regular old workout. Look for a yoga in the park session or a new gym to try out free for a week!

Day After Thanksgiving Detox As Seen on FOX Chicago

Feeling a little stuffed after Thanksgiving weekend? If you’re looking for ways to reset your system and lose the bloat after too much turkey and stuffing, you’re in the right place. Our Health & Fitness Expert Stephanie Mansour shows us how with 5 easy ways to deflate like a balloon and shrink your waistline in 3 days or less.

1. Load up on the anti-inflammatory foods! Green leafy vegetables, COOKED vegetables (not raw – ditch the salads!) are the easiest for your body to digest and will help reduce bloat. Kale and spinach are great green, leafy vegetables.

2. Ginger & other healthy spices. Speed up your metabolism by getting things moving!

3. Next, drink plenty of water, sparkling water, or coconut water. If you MUST drink soda, have a sip and then pour the rest out. Drinking tea, like ginger tea, will also help with soothing the stomach. Adding some lemon to your water is another great addition to help detox.

4. Speaking of getting things moving, pick up a probiotic to help get things moving and improve your gut health. I like these probiotics. You want to get things moving on the inside to help clear out your system.

What 200 Calories of Halloween Candy Looks Like and How to Burn 200 Calories As Seen on WGN

Worried about overindulging in Halloween candy? Health & Fitness Expert Stephanie Mansour is here to share with us what we’d need to do to burn off 200 calories worth of candy!

Remember, making healthy eating choices should be because you value your body and you want to put good things into yourself.

Working out is separate – it’s also good for your body. But hopefully this will make you think twice before you eat your candy. And remember, eating protein every few hours will help stave off sugar cravings!

35 minutes of Zumba or dancing to your favorite song
Watch your favorite TV show at the gym on the bike for 30 minutes.

60 minutes of light weight lifting (can show with dumbbells) and body weight strength training

Squats for about 15 minutes straight – using your legs which are the biggest muscle groups so burn more calories faster as opposed to working the arms or upper body.
Push ups at a moderate pace for 40 minutes straight

20 minutes of high intensity interval training: mixing cardio + weights – can show this or also have clip from my workout DVD showing this

The great thing about this is that you’ll burn calories even after you work out, even when you’re sleeping, as opposed to cardio which only burns calories while you’re doing it.

About 30 minutes of Vinyasa yoga
40 minutes raking leaves

2 hours of clothes shopping – carrying, walking around

Buy groceries for 45 minutes, carry bags up stairs for 5, and put away for 15 minutes.
