Corporate Fitness: Easy Workouts for the Workplace

Chicago corporate wellness consultant and fitness coach Stephanie Mansour shares ways to get your workout in at work.

Does your summer social calendar have you running short on time to hit the gym for a full workout? The good news is there are always things you can do to burn calories, sans gym shoes!

Maybe you’ve heard the phrase “sitting is the new smoking.” It’s true that a sedentary lifestyle can be just as unhealthy as smoking cigarettes or other unhealthy habits.

Many of my private weight loss coaching clients are women with demanding jobs that require a lot of time sitting behind a desk to get their work done.

We figure out ways to fit workouts into their routine, which includes not only full workout sessions, but also ways to step it up by incorporating more movement into their day.

Weight Loss Workouts for Women: Jump Rope Workout Routine

In my work as a weight loss coach for women, one of the biggest challenges I face is keeping my clients motivated to stay on track with their workouts. What I’ve found is if we don’t keep it fun, we get bored and start skipping workouts altogether.

Instead of skipping another gym workout, take it back to your carefree days on the playground. This jump rope workout routine is one of my favorite ways to step up your cardio.

Learn how to do a basic jump rope, progress to jumping rope while moving side to side and even jump on one foot!

Tips for Healthy Eating On the Go & Healthy eating ON Vacation

Whether you’re on a road trip or heading to the airport, that can be your first step in making health conscious decisions:

Gas Station/Fast Food Stops:
Look for protein: you’re like a lion looking for its prey. Encourage kids to look for nuts, trail mix, or dried fruit. If you can, get a piece of fruit. You can also check out these brand new fruit bars from Kind Snacks, called “Pressed”. They have two servings of fruit per bar, and contain 5 ingredients or less. Always make sure you can see and pronounce the ingredients, especially for grab and go snacks!

At a fast food stop, let kids get fries but also get a side of fruit or a fruit cup for them for “Dessert”. At fast food restaurants, opt for chicken as it’s typically the leanest of the meats. For yourself, look for hard boiled eggs at gas stations, and even pre-made protein drinks. Don’t go for just the candy. And if you’re looking for some crunch, get healthier chips. PopChips has a ton of new flavors and they contain half the fat of regular potato chips! I love the single serving bags to help with portion control.

Eat the colors in the rainbow. Avoid the white, creamy dressings, potato salads, and nutrition-less condiments. Load up on veggies you may not normally eat, such as beets, bean sprouts, etc. Encourage your kids to try out new foods on the buffet using this rule, too. Don’t load up on the pasta salad. Instead, pack on extra vegetables to your salad. I brought in this salad from Doc B’s in Chicago to show you how beautiful a salad can look!

Fancy Restaurant:
Add in an extra vegetable. If you’re ordering fish, steak, or chicken, swap out the potatoes (mashed, sweet, or fries) for an extra vegetable. Encourage your kids to eat more vegetables too by ordering a salad to share with the family as an appetizer instead of your typical “bar food” appetizers. Don’t do the bread basket.

Coffee Shops:
Stay away from flavored syrups and order as basic as possible. Coffee with almond milk, allow kids to get a frappuccino but with no whip so that they can enjoy how the frap tastes without watering it down with the whip.

Who says working out to lose weight can’t be fun? I always advise my private weight loss coaching clients never to let workouts become dull or routine. Challenge yourself, switch it up often, and keep it fun.

In this video, we include exercises to lose weight and get fit with a pool noodle, including jumping over and back, walking push ups, and tug of war.

As a  weight loss coach, many of the private clients I work with are driven ambitious women. They have big goals, high standards, and want to present their best self to the world. They want to feel good and look good, because they know their personal image matters.

If you work outside of the home, your look is a public representation of your company’s brand. And in any situation — social or professional — you make an impression everywhere you go. 

For your own personal brand,  the way you present yourself matters. It affects the way people perceive your competence.

Reaching your career and personal goals requires hard work and dedication, and it also requires looking the part.

I’m not saying you have to look like a supermodel to get ahead. And I’m not suggesting that you should be critical or self-conscious about the way you look.

Confidence is definitely an inside job, but when you take the time to look your best, you’re signaling to yourself and to others that you deserve the best.

There’s no denying that it’s important to be well-groomed, neatly dressed, and show that you respect yourself enough to pay attention to your appearance.

This is why I like to share some of my favorite time-saving personal grooming tips with my weight loss coaching clients, and with you!

Fitness Coach Tips: Step Booty Workout
