How to Rock This Complex Partner Workout that Tones Biceps and Legs

1. Sneaky Gift to Get Dad Fit this Father’s Day

If you’re trying to nudge Dad in a healthy direction, my favorite fitness gift is a gift certificate for a personal training session, a Pilates session, or a Yoga session.

Personal training is great for someone who wants to or needs to lose weight, or just needs to get back in the gym. If your dad has low back pain or needs to strengthen his core, Pilates will help with that. If he struggles with really tight muscles and needs to become more flexible, a Yoga session is the ticket.

Here’s a trick–don’t just purchase the session, also schedule it! Put it on your dad’s calendar so he will automatically feel more invested in going since he’ll have to call to reschedule or cancel if need be.

2.  Fitness Trackers, Speakers, and Music for Dad

I love this Fender Newport Bluetooth Speaker because it looks so sharp and it’s something that dad will love! The retro look combined with the functionality is a great gift for Father’s Day.

If your dad goes to the gym or loves to run, he’ll also love these Jaybird wireless headphones. Wireless headphones are all the rage!

Let’s not forget fitness trackers. But don’t buy just any old fitness tracker. Check out these beautiful and professional looking watches by Fossil. They even help track sleep! They’re hybrid smartwatches and can sync with your dad’s phone!

3. Look the Part: The Gear Dad Needs

If dad loves lifting weights, this Kettle Gryp is super cool. All you have to do is put a dumbbell of any weight amount into the contraption, and you’re ready to exercise.

I encourage my private weight loss clients to lift weights that feel comfortable for them, starting with 10 repetitions per exercise. To help with pain management and pain relief, check out this kit from Gaiam that includes a foam roller, body roller, and a ball to roll your feet with at your desk at work or even on the couch!

Tervis makes great insulated water bottles, and if your dad is a baseball fan, I love the Chicago Cubs version!

My mom always says, “If you don’t know what to get dad, you can’t go wrong with socks and underwear!” That’s why I love these 2(X)ist athletic socks because they’re super soft and have a little zipper pouch to put your key or money in. A lot of my private weight loss clients don’t like lugging a bunch of stuff to the gym, and your dad probably isn’t into carrying a man bag. So this is a simple way to only bring the essentials.

Moisture control undies to wear underneath workout shorts are also a great Father’s Day gift option as well.

4. Men’s Organic Grooming

I often talk about women taking holistic approachs to health from all angles, including beauty products. But this is really becoming a trend for men’s grooming products, too.

This Fun Partner Workout Is The Best Exercise For Toned Legs

I’m back with my favorite fitness partner, Jenny Milkowski! My private weight loss clients love strong, sleek, and toned thighs and so do we! That’s why we teamed up to bring you this awesome partner workout–a leg exercise that strengthens those glutes, too!

Partner Side Lunge Workout

To do this side lunge, grab a medicine ball between your hands and start with your feet together. Next, step your left foot out to the left. Bend the left knee while keeping the right leg straight.

Now, sit back into your left glute and then press off your left heel to come back to center while lifting your left knee up to balance on the center leg. Pass the medicine ball to your partner.

Do 5-10 reps and then switch sides with your partner to work the other leg!

This move requires balance, but it is really fun especially with a partner!

This is one of the best leg exercises for women because it works all of the muscles in the legs. This leg exercise works the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and even the stability muscles and tendons of the lower leg.

5 Ways to Beat Summer Sugar Cravings (As Seen On ABC Chicago)

When you’re surrounded by summer treats at BBQs, outdoor happy hours, and on vacation, your sweet tooth may rear its ugly head! But have no fear because as a Health & Weight Loss Expert I stopped by ABC Chicago to talk about five ways to beat summer sugar cravings.

How can you have a good time this summer and still keep those summer sugar cravings in check? A lot of my private weight loss clients are very successful corporate executives, but even they need a little help finding success in weight loss and in kicking sugar cravings. The truth is–we all do!

Here are five tips to curb sugar cravings and lose weight this summer.

1. Drink More Water. Lose Weight Faster.

My first tip is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day! One of my private weight loss clients in Chicago started our private weight loss program, and was drinking seven diet sodas a day. After one week of drinking more water, she was down to two sodas A WEEK!

What a huge transformation in a short period of time. As the best weight loss coach for women (according to my clients!), that’s my goal–minimal effort with maximum and fast results.

Some of my clients prefer to drink fizzy water (I recommend using Soda Stream for this), and others prefer bottled water like the Himalayan mineral water I featured on the ABC Chicago TV segment.

2. Small Changes in Thinking Equal Big Weight Loss Results

Next, so many diet programs for women label foods as “off limits.” If you go to a party and focus on everything you can’t eat, that’s no fun! Instead, think about what you CAN eat or drink.

If you’re making your own cocktails, try Batiste rum with no added sugar. If you’re eating snacks at home, buy single serving treats that are healthy, like these yummy treats by Absolutely Gluten Free.

3. Rewire Your Taste Buds With These Simple Tricks

If you just can’t stop eating sugar, it’s time to change your taste buds! Instead of reaching for another scoop of ice cream, force yourself to eat a piece of super dark chocolate. Or, add more spice to your food. Eat vegetables. Eat something completely opposite of whatever sugary thing you’re currently eating. You’ll be surprised at what it does to retrain your taste buds.

4. First Track, Then Change

Knowledge is power. In my wellness programs for women, and in my private weight loss programs for women, I encourage my weight loss clients to track their food, but only for two days at a time. You just need to bring awareness to what you’re eating everyday, and then you can make a positive change.

5. Let Moderation Be Your Guide

Finally, it’s time to ditch the all-or-nothing mentality that’s so prevalent in many mainstream diets! The best diet for women is to eat in moderation. Do still take your multi-vitamins, your probiotics, and any other health products you’re using even if you have an “off” or unhealthy eating day.
