Summer Workouts For Every Fitness Level (As Seen on NBC News Better)

Getting outside and soaking up the summer sun is one of the best feelings in the world. When the weather is so nice, you don’t have to stay inside inside of a gym to squeeze in your workout! 

Summer activities can be so much fun that you don’t even realize you’re getting a workout! That’s why I always encourage my private weight loss clients to step out of their comfort zones and participate in local recreational sports leagues. Whether you’re playing beach volleyball, pickleball, or even doing yoga on a paddle board you’ll be soaking in Vitamin D and getting a full body workout! Running for Weight Loss (As Seen on Under Armour’s Map My Run)

“Is running the best cardio for weight loss?” This is the question I frequently am asked when I start coaching one of my private weight loss clients. The answer, however, varies from person to person!

Getting your heart rate up is essential for weight loss, so I always suggest doing whatever that person will be consistent with! There are some people who hate running, and that is perfectly fine. Everyone is different! There are so many cardio options that aren’t running! Consistency is the key with doing cardio for weight loss. If you decide that running is a form of cardio you can be consistent with, it’s also important to realize that you’re most likely going to hit a plateau. Plateaus can occur with a variety of workouts, and they are important to make sure you’re losing weight in a healthy way! Best Inner Thigh Exercises (As Seen on NBC News Better)

Toning up your inner thighs doesn’t just get rid of the “jiggle” many people are self-conscious about, it also can help to strengthen your core and reduce the risk of injury! Targeting this area through cardio can help the performance of your body overall. 

Another added benefit of targeting your inner thighs with cardio workouts is that you’re working to prevent damage to the knee and hip. Dr. Steven Struhl, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, even notes that toning the inner thighs is essential to create a strong core. The Best Stretches for Runners Before & After a Run (As Seen in Chicago Sun Times)

No matter where you’re running, stretching is essential. It’s especially important to do dynamic stretches before you go for a run so that your body is prepared to keep moving! It’s also important to make sure you’re doing the proper stretches to calm your muscles after a run.

Stretching is an essential part of any workout routine, especially during the warm up. Dynamic stretches are great ways to help warm your body up, which also helps your body to get prepared for movement. It isn’t enough to just stretch before your workout though, it’s also very important to stretch after you run! The stretches you should do after a run are very different than the stretches you’d do before a run – you’ll want to hold your stretches.

Yoga Poses to Help You Sleep (As Seen on NBC News Better)

If you have trouble falling asleep at night, you’re not alone! Many of my private weight loss clients (and myself at times) also struggle with this. What many people don’t realize, however, is that stress is the reason they are struggling to fall asleep! 

Doing yoga before you go to bed can help you to fall asleep faster because of the way the poses can help to calm your nervous system. Dr. Kenneth Lee, Assistant Professor of Sleep Medicine and Neurology at the University of Chicago Medical Center, notes that doing yoga not only helps you to fall asleep faster but also improves the quality of sleep you’ll have. My Top 5 Exercises for Toned Arms this Summer (for NBC News Better)

Tightening and toning your arms is a goal that is at the forefront of the minds of many of my private weight loss clients. Summer is here, and so is attire that shows off your arms!

 

Even if your arms aren’t ‘summer ready’ quite yet, tightening and toning the arms can be done fairly quickly. One of my clients saw results within three workout sessions when she dedicated 5-minutes of her workout routine to her arms. I recommend adding these 5 exercises to your fitness routine 3 times a week. Stretches for Better Posture & Exercises to Reduce Low Back Pain (for NBC News Better)

Working long hours at the office can lead to harmful impacts on your back and your posture. That’s why I always recommend that my private weight loss clients do exercises to improve their posture.

Having poor posture can lead to many negative health effects, one of which being back pain. Luckily there are exercises that can help to strengthening your upper back and open up your chest which can help to alleviate your back pain. Full Body Partner Workout (As Seen on Successible Life)

One of my favorite ways to enjoy my workouts and stay more engaged with them is to do exercises that allow me to have a partner! Working with a partner can also help you to become more committed to your fitness as well as to motivate you to push harder. 

When you workout with a partner, whether it’s with a friend or a trainer, you’re able to hold each other more accountable during the workout. I created a full body workout to do with a partner for Successible Life that includes moves that you and your partner will have fun doing! How to Get Toned Arms (As Featured in Chicago Sun Times)

Are you ready to get your arms in shape for summer? Toning up your arms for summer can seem like such a hard and unachievable task, but when you add dumbbells to your workout it becomes a much easier goal to achieve! 

Even if you already have an arm workout routine, implementing some small changes can completely change your results! These changes can be as simple as adjusting your grip or lessening the weight of the dumbbells you’re using to workout. When I’m working with one of my private weight loss clients I always recommend they do bicep curls and tricep extensions during their arm workout.
