The Best 5-Minute Stretches to Increase Blood Flow (As Seen in NBC News Better)

Many women stretch before working out, but they don’t think about stretching when they wake up in the morning or before sitting for long periods. Stretching doesn’t just warm up the body and help to increase blood flow – it can also give you a boost of energy!

Taking the time to stretch in your everyday life is essential. I encourage my private weight loss clients to do yoga-based stretching to help calm them down while also increasing blood flow. Doing this means they can cross two things off of their to-do list at once! When designing a stretch routine I made sure to create a sequence that could be done quickly and easily, in this case, the stretches can be done in under 5-minutes. These stretches focus on working your larger muscle groups that are essential for day to day life. Another aspect of these stretches is that they can be done anywhere. Even if you are traveling for work or are doing them from your living room. These exercises require no equipment aside from the suggested yoga mat. If you are about to do a workout, make sure you are doing the proper dynamic stretches that help to get your muscles prepared to move.

Orangetheory takes a few unique approaches to exercise and weight loss. It focuses on HIIT training, or high-intensity interval training, to help keep you at your ideal heart rate for an extended period. One of the most unique components of this exercise regimen is the use of heart rate tracking equipment to rate your performance during the class. If you’re a person who thrives off of being competitive, you would love Orangetheory. The competitive nature is very inclusive in the sense that all of the exercises being done can be modified to the individual doing the movement. Another fantastic aspect of Orangetheory is that the coach of the class is able to walk around and help those who don’t have the proper form or even make suggestions to make a move less or more difficult. Promoting a healthy lifestyle it’s essential for me to stay on track while traveling. This means doing travel friendly workouts as well as eating as clean as I can. While I can’t say I never have my favorite meal from a local restaurant I can’t typically get in Chicago or don’t enjoy a cocktail or two at dinner, it’s important to keep moderation in mind. Moderation is key when it comes to sticking to your health and wellness goals! When you focus on moderation you aren’t depriving yourself of your favorite things, meaning you’re less likely to blow your diet for your favorite ‘cheat meal’. When my private weight loss clients ask me what I pack for lunch, I always am curious about what other fitness experts eat for lunch. Do they follow similar nutritional plans? This led me to ask 6 other fitness experts what they packed for lunch.

One of the first people I asked was Roxanne Summerville who is an ACSM-certified personal trainer who specializes in fitness nutrition and senior fitness. Roxanne loves incorporating veggies into her lunches and recommends to keep your refrigerator stocked with frozen veggies so you can quickly have a nutritious lunch.

I also asked Ronnie Lubischer CSCS, who owns Lubischer’s Burn and Blast Training. Ronnie made sure to explain that his lunch is usually his pre-workout and that his favorite lunch always includes a lean protein. 

Kenny Rosenzweig, NASM-CPT, and co-founder of new high-intensity low-impact training studio Rowgatta also weighed in and shared what he eats for lunch. Kenny notes that his secret for lunches that won’t leave him with low energy levels throughout the day is to stay away from foods that are packed with sugar. 

Emily Daly, Charlotte-based CrossFit coach, personal trainer and nutrition coach shared that her go-to lunch is made in an Instant Pot. These pots are amazing for allowing you to quickly prepare delicious and nutritious meals!

Another certified personal trainer and health coach, Katie Austin, shared that she loves having lunches that are big and healthy. She emphasizes how important it is to have a healthy lunch to avoid feeling bloated or dragging for the rest of the day. 

Erin Bahadur, a certified personal trainer and author of “Erin’s Inside Job” blog, shared that she also makes sure to prepare lunches that will last her several days. This ensures she doesn’t have to spend 15 – 30 minutes cooking a new lunch every day!

Nike’s main claim about the Nike VAPORFLY 4% running shoes is that they can increase your running time by 4%. This bold claim has caught the attention of many, especially those who run professionally and are gearing up for the Summer Olympics. 

To get a professional podiatrists opinion I asked Dr. Velimir Petkov, DMP, what his opinions of these controversial shoes were. How To Set Fitness Goals (As Seen In The Chicago Sun Times) 

January is over, and for many women, so are the fitness resolutions they set for the new year. As a private weight loss coach, one question I am frequently asked about the best ways to set goals for weight loss that will lead to sustainable weight loss. 

Setting a goal to lose weight is one of the most commons goals women set. One common weight loss misconception is that all goals are treated equally – which is far from the case. If you have the goal to lose weight it’s important to look within yourself and discover the reason why you want to lose weight. When you’re able to determine the real reason you want to make a change in your health, you’re far more likely to be successful. Going to a ski resort for a vacation with your family and loved ones can be a fun vacation, but it’s important to prepare your body for the use of muscles you don’t use as often. Skiing without preparing your body can leave you waddling around the next day with sore glutes and thighs and can put a damper on your ski resort vacation. Skiing and snowboarding use muscles that are similar to the ones you use while cycling and swimming. When preparing for a ski trip you want to do exercises that focus on stamina, balance, and posture. The Best Yoga Sequences For Cold Weather Posture (As Seen In The Chicago Sun Times)

Cold weather can have many impacts on your overall health and wellness, but one way many women don’t realize it can impact them is in their posture. Whether you’re avoiding the cold by hunching over or walking faster than usual your posture may cause your hips to get tighter and your shoulders to hunch over. 

Being a certified yoga instructor, I understand the importance of improving your posture. One thing many of my private weight loss clients are shocked to find out is that you don’t have to attend yoga classes to get the benefits of yoga – you can strategically do yoga poses throughout your day for the same impact on your body! When it comes to yoga for posture I recommend poses that focus on opening up your chest, shoulders, and back.
