Today Show: Stressed out? Start your day with this 5-minute moving meditation

Morning routines are important, and having something special and refreshing is a great way to start your day. As a yoga instructor, I like to kick start my day with a moving meditation that pairs physical moves with positive mantras to de-stress and center myself. For those that have difficulty sitting still with our thoughts, a moving meditation can be helpful!

In Just five minutes you can set an intention for your day using these moves and mantras. One great one is the butterfly pose. It targets the inner thighs and groin for an intense lower-body stretch. While in this pose, say the words “I am limitless.” The butterfly pose is meant for relaxation, making it a great pose to really focus on your inner power. You should come out of this pose feeling strong and ready to take on whatever is thrown your way.

The motivation to maintain a daily workout can be very difficult, but it is typical– even for those who work out on a regular basis. It is important to have the consistency of a workout schedule, but it is also okay if you want to take a rest day off!

Some tips to maintain a consistent routine is to work out with friends and setting smaller goals that are easier to achieve to increase the motivation to work out. TODAY SHOW: THE RIGHT WAY TO DO A SEATED TOE TOUCH

Touching your toes may seem like an impossible feat. The naturally flexible make stretches like the seated toe touch look easy, but it’s actually a pretty challenging stretch. To reach this level of flexibility, stretching must be incorporated into your routine every day.

It is important to stretch right before a workout, and the seated toe touch is commonly used in many warm-up and cool down routines. I offer different exercises that will help you with the seated forward bend and tips on how to perform a seated toe touch correctly, but remember: Improved flexibility needs consistent practice!
