If you are looking for a great way to get your heart rate up then high knees are a great place to start. This body weight cardio move is often used as a warmup to other activities, engaging the core and strengthening the leg muscles. 

 

But before you jump into this move keep in mind a few tips. The move looks simple but requires a lot of attention to detail to be performed correctly. Your posture, foot placement and arm movement are all involved in the success of this exercise!

Today Show: Tone Your Core With These One-Dumbbell Ab Exercises

You don’t need any fancy equipment to build core strength. In fact, bodyweight exercises alone are enough to strengthen your core and tone your midsection. But if you’re looking to add a bit of a challenge to your routine grab a dumbbell! 

 

A great one to try is the dumbbell burpee. Burpees require a lot of energy and engage your full body, and in this variation it activates your core even more. For the dumbbell burpee, start in a standing position and hold the dumbbell in your right hand, letting it hang by your side. Perform a squat, and as you return to standing, press the dumbbell up over your head into an overhead press. Then, bend the knees and place your hands on the ground (your left hand will be on the ground, your right hand will hold on to the dumbbell which will rest on the ground) and hop or step your feet back to plank. Then step or jump your feet towards your hands, slide the weight to the left and pick it up with your left hand, and return to standing. Repeat on the left side. Repeat this 5 times on each side.

CNN: Weight Loss Coach Shares Other Benefits to Exercise

At some point in your life you have probably heard that moving your body is good for you. But have you really known why? In fact not experiencing enough physical activity can increase your risk of developing certain diseases up to 8%. 

To combat a physical slump, it is best to incorporate movement throughout your day. I suggest setting an alarm on your phone to remind you to stretch; starting with three times a day and working your way up to every hour of the day. You can even get creative with your movement times like while waiting for water to boil or brushing your teeth, add in 10 squats!

TODAY SHOW: What You Didn’t know About Doing A Downward Facing Dog

Although downward dog is a yoga exercise, it has become a popular move used to warm up the body and stretch the back in all types of workout routines.  Like many other yoga poses, downward dog is a great move to drop into when you need to relax. It’s a great way to release the tension that builds up after a long day spent staring at a screen or sitting at a desk. While this move is a great one to incorporate into your routine, performing it without mastering the proper form comes with some risk.

One common mistake to this pose is if you feel like the space between your feet and your hands is too narrow, shift your feet back further. Another thing to try is instead of tucking in your butt, bend your knees just a little so that you can tilt your hips forward.

CNN: 5 exercises to combat chronic aches from too much computer time

With virtual classes and at-home work, it’s no wonder why many people are experiencing more pain in the neck and back than usual. Sitting in a chair all day, your back slouched and neck bent, is just not good for you. Period.

Keeping your body moving doesn’t have to take your whole day, doing these simple exercises will help to relieve tension and keep you feeling loose. One simple exercise to start with is arm circles. These help address shoulder stiffness and will get your blood flowing after sitting down for a while. This move is also a great way to engage your back. With this circular movement, you’re stretching your back as well as your shoulders while simultaneously getting in a quick arm workout.

Today Show: 4 Resistance Band Exercises That Target The Glutes

If you’re toning your butt just for the appeal of rocking that spring summer suit then you’re missing out on the other awesome benefits of a glute focused workout. These resistance band exercises target your butt in subtle movements to tone your butt and engage your core, while improving your overall strength! 

Using the resistance band really helps to isolate your glutes and focus your sculpting. One great exercise is the side-to-side band walk. This exercise is a great way to start your workout as it is a glute activator. First, place the resistance band around your thighs. Bend into a half squat (also known as a shallow squat) and place your hands together close to your chest. Take a step towards the right with your right foot. Then take a step towards the right with the left foot. And there are more where that came from!

Broccoli might have been a harder sell on the taste buds but surely the benefits of coffee should need little convincing. One in particular is that drinking black coffee can actually be a great addition to spiking your workout routine. 

Because black coffee increases the amount of adrenaline in the blood, your body can be more prepared for exercise. It also helps break down body fat that is stored, which gives your body more fuel for fitness!
