When you decide to work towards a smaller waist you should keep in mind that it will take effort. While exercise can help you lose weight overall, you have to also have a healthy diet in order to get a smaller waist. While fad diets may help you lose a few pounds quickly, these aren’t sustainable. A healthy diet should consist of protein, fruits, and vegetables and is a diet you can maintain over a long period of time.

The Story Behind Step It Up With Steph (As Seen On IGTV) 

Creating Step It Up With Steph has always been a lifelong dream of mine. I know I don’t share my personal story all the time between all the articles and segments I do – which is why I hoped on an Instagram Live with Gina DeVee to share my testimony! 

Let me start by saying I’ve known Gina for 12 years. Gina will always hold a special place in my heart because of her role in motivating and inspire me to go after my dream! When I heard about her from a friend of a friend I knew I needed her advice, and I am SO thankful I did! 

Shortly after college I started a desk job that I hated. I knew this job wasn’t my passion and wasn’t what I wanted to do, but I thought money was more valuable than going after my dream. During the recession of 2008, I was laid off from this job. That’s when it hit me – sometimes you can’t have other options than going after your dreams. 

That was the day that I drove to Santa Monica, CA and made the decision to start Step It Up With Steph. I always knew I wanted to launch a tv show that could show women to love themselves as they are but to also show them little ways they can change themselves if they wanted to. Yoga can be done daily to help you feel relaxed and energized, or can be done periodically for fun. Doing these yoga poses with my mom and dad were a fantastic way for us to bond and connect! How To Step Up Your Walk (As Seen On CNN) 

While gyms remained closed due to the Coronavirus, one of the simplest (and most effective!) ways to exercise will be to go on a walk. You’ll soak in some much needed Vitamin D while also getting some fresh air after being stuck at home.

While other forms of exercise may be first associated with working out, walking will remain a top pick by health and fitness experts such as myself. This in part is to to the fact that they can be done virtually anywhere as well as the fact that walks can be done for free! You don’t need any gym equipment or even require any special attire even though tennis shoes are highly recommended. 

Many women are unaware of just how beneficial walks can be when it comes to a form of exercise. If you’re shooting for a target of getting 150 minutes of moderate exercise, this comes down to walking 22 minutes a day. There are many ways you can even take your walk to the next level by adding variations into it. Some of my favorite variations are walking intervals, engaging the core, as well as lower-body strength training! I shared some of my favorite ways to step up your walk with CNN. Changing your mindset is one the the best ways to get back into shape. Once you change how you think about health and wellness, your habits will follow. When I begin working with my private weight loss clients I always tell them to change their mindset and their bodies will follow! 

Another one of my favorite ways to motivate clients to getting back into shape is to help them identify their motivations. Once we figure out what is driving them and why they want to get in shape, it changes the way they feel about exercise. Finding your motivation will help you stop thinking of getting in shape as something you’re expected to do but rather something you want to do!

The Best Ways To Stay Fit During Quarantine (As Seen In University of Michigan’s Alumni Association) 

If you’ve followed my journey from the beginning you may remember the weekly aerobics show I did in college “The Big House Beat”. This show helped inspire me to push for my national PBS show “Step It Up With Steph” as well as strive to help other women love their bodies.

Some Michigan Alumnus asked me a few questions about staying in shape during quarantine, which was so exciting! The main piece of advice I had for them was to ditch the ‘all or nothing’ mentality that many people get. Just because you indulge yourself a little with a glass of wine in the evening doesn’t mean you need to also eat extra dessert! It also doesn’t mean you need to work out for two hours everyday! A few quick 5 minute workouts are the perfect way to start and motivate yourself. 

Another major misconception is that you have to have a ton of exercise equipment to workout in your home. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Any item in your house that you can lift can be used as exercise equipment. I’ve been recommending my private weight loss clients use items around their home that weigh between 3 and 8 pounds. This may be an old textbook, a broom, or even a gallon of milk. Be creative!

This yoga and breathing sequence I designed is perfect to help reduce your anxiety. It focuses on taking deep breaths that will help to calm you while also putting you in a state of reduced stress. It’s also only about 5 minutes, so it’s perfect to squeeze into your new daily routine or even before a conference call!

Many of my private weight loss clients have told me that one of the goals they have set for themselves is to have strong and defined legs. They’re always very shocked when I tell them that this is a very achievable goal and they can get visibly more defined legs in a relatively short amount of time. Being a health and fitness coach I specialize in helping women achieve the goals they set for themselves with effective exercise plans I’ve designed for them. 

When I’m creating a workout plan for a client, one of the most important things I do is assess where they’re at in regards to their fitness level. Not everyone is going to be able to jump right in and do difficult leg workouts – and that is okay! First and foremost, it’s essential that women realize that many of the bodies they are idolizing in the media are unnatural. The bodies of celebrities may not naturally be in an hourglass figure, instead they may be created by plastic surgeons or even intensive image editing. Placing unrealistic expectations for yourself when it comes to your figure isn’t healthy for you, so it’s important to make sure you’re working towards attainable goals!

Theragun has officially launched again and have rebranded themselves as Therabody! These massagers have now been re-designed to be much more user friendly as well as quiet. This is huge for my private weight loss clients! Instead of them having to use these massagers while everyone in the house is awake they can use them whenever they want and unless you’re in the room with them, you wouldn’t even know.
