The Best Equipment For Your At-Home Gym (As Seen On The Today Show)

Whether you’re starting on your fitness journey or if you’re a workout pro, it’s always a great idea to have an area in your home that you can use for your workouts. This helps to motivate you to workout even if you don’t necessarily have the time to go to the gym.

The realm of fitness equipment is very saturated. Deciding what equipment would best suit your own needs, as well as what equipment will have the most impact on your body can be difficult. It’s also important to find products that can easily be stored or that you have to space to keep out. Many women have success with items that they can store away and bring out during their workouts, which is a fantastic way to help a space become multi-purpose. Another challenge that my private weight loss clients share with me is finding reliable equipment that is in their price range. A home gym is something extremely personal. Unlike a gym, you customize it to what exercises you will be doing as well as what you enjoy doing. If you don’t enjoy doing yoga, you don’t have to purchase a yoga mat. Taking the time to create a home gym for yourself is a great way to help you see your health as an investment. If you are physically (or monetarily) invested into something, you’re more likely to use it. While some home gyms have equipment worth hundreds of dollars, not all do. In fact, you can purchase quality equipment for around $15 that can help you to take your fitness to the next level!

Finding the time to workout isn’t a new challenge women are facing. In fact, many of my private weight loss clients have struggled with this in the past. If this is an issue that they approach me with, I always make sure to find workouts they can do quickly that will make an impact on their bodies. When creating the workouts based on these different time frames I also made sure to include options clients could do from the comfort of their own home that only required basic gym equipment in case they didn’t have the time to make it to the gym. In a world full of technology that seems to change daily, there are bound to be new gadgets that can help you with your fitness almost daily. If you have Amazon Prime, you’re going to love these workouts. The best part is that Amazon offers almost every type of workouts you could imagine. There are videos on everything from yoga sequences to HIIT workouts. I always recommend these Amazon Prime workouts to my clients because of how easily accessible they are. In many cases, these workouts don’t require equipment which makes them perfect for women on the go. You can tune in to any of the Amazon Prime workouts on your PC, TV, or even on your cellphone. These workouts are also great for beginners because many of them break down the exercises in easy to understand language, which can make you feel much more confident in your workout.

Everyone needs to enjoy and indulge themselves sometimes. It’s important to not deprive yourself of foods and drinks you love, but it’s essential to keep moderation in mind. It’s also important to incorporate a little exercise if you’re going to be indulging in your favorite foods! Even if it’s just a few push ups or squats, they will help your body overall. I always stress to my private weight loss clients that when they’re on a vacation they don’t need to spend a great amount of time working out. Even just spending 10-15 minutes doing simple workouts will greatly impact their fitness!

The Truth About Body Fat (As Seen In Oxygen)

One of the questions I ask my private weight loss clients when we begin working together is what their BMI (body mass index) is. When they answer, I always explain that this isn’t the determining factor to if they are overweight. Once you begin working out, your body starts to build muscle. This muscle is much more dense than body fat. So even though once you begin working out your clothes will be fitting better, your number on the scale may stay the same or go up. Your body mass index might even go up! It’s important to remember that as long as you’re exercising and eating healthy, you don’t need to focus on your body mass index.

It’s important to be aware of the potential injuries that the workout you’re doing may cause. This is in part why it is essential to consult a medical professional before beginning a new form of working out, especially if it is a specifically intense exercise. Christian Glaser, DO, doctor of sports medicine at MedStar Health at The St. James, and Dr. Michael C. Schwartz, MD, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at ProHEALTH Care, both see a variety of workout injuries everyday. While not all workout related injuries are ones that would need to be seen by a doctor such as ankle rolls or wrist sprains, it’s important to know which injuries need to be seen by a medical professional immediately. It’s always a great idea to be aware of your body and what it is telling you. You know your body better than anyone. Given the amount of time we spend hunched over our phones, there is no wonder many women have bad posture! Yoga is a fantastic way to correct this issue. Certain yoga poses focus on a twisting of the spine, which in turn compresses the internal organs. This helps to detoxify the body because of the fresh blood that rushes to your organs after leaving the yoga pose. I recommend yoga poses that detoxify the body to my private weight loss clients because of the way they are able to improve their posture while also helping the organs of your body.

Strength training workouts are increasingly popular because of the way they are able to quickly burn calories while also giving you mental benefits.  Typically, it is recommended that you incorporate strength training into your workout regimen at least two times a week. When working with my private weight loss clients on their fitness journey, I recommend that they do strength training a few times a week. This means they will be toning their muscles and be receiving benefits that will help them in their day to day movements.
