The Best Holiday Season Fitness Hacks To Stay Healthy (As Seen on ABC 7 Chicago)

When many people think of the Holiday Season, their mind automatically jumps to annual Christmas parties and other festivities. While these festivities are always a highlight of the season, they may leave you feeling like you need to put your fitness goals to the side.

One of the ways I encourage my private weight loss clients to not feel as if they aren’t reaching their weight loss goals is to cut their fitness goals in half. The holiday season is a busy one, and if you are too hard on yourself you may want to throw in the towel or completely forget about your fitness progress. If you keep smaller more manageable goals that you’re more likely to reach you’ll end up boosting your morale and potentially overachieving your goals!

Another way I’m able to encourage my clients to stay on track is to have them add plant-based probiotic drinks into their diets. One of my personal favorites is the new Plantiful probiotic drink from Lifeway Foods. Plentiful is a pea protein, which is a great way to incorporate vegan foods into your diet.  Lifeway Foods is known for their kefir, but this new allergen-friendly alternative to nut milks is a drink you’ll love. It has 10 grams of plant-based protein per serving and is perfect for post-workout. It also has 10 live and active probiotic cultures which is twice the amount found in most yogurts.

Plantiful is available at Fresh Thyme and Pete’s Fresh Market stores in Chicagoland. You can also get it as a soft serve frozen treat or in a smoothie at any Lifeway Kefir Shop location in Chicago.

The best yoga mats and accessories to stretch your abilities (as seen on Today.com)

steph- The best yoga mats and accessories to stretch your abilities

Yoga has tremendous health and wellness benefits. Not only does it have the physical benefits of increased flexibility, strengthening, and toning, it also strengthens your cardiovascular and circulatory system. In addition to physical benefits, developing a yoga practice will also help you improve your mental sharpness and emotional wellbeing.

As a weight loss coach, I often suggest that the women in my weight loss programs for women incorporate yoga into their healthy lifestyle. While you may believe high-intensity workouts are the only way or best way to burn fat and lose weight, yoga may actually be the activity that helps you reduce emotional eating, reduce stress on your adrenals, and balance your metabolism.

If you’re going to practice yoga, why not have the best yoga mats and accessories available? In a recent article for Today.com, I shared some must-have yoga gear and clothing that will help you feel as prepared and inspired as an experienced yogi.

Post-Lunch Digestion Workout at Your Desk

Feeling sluggish after a big meal?

My beautiful sis and our Lebanese feast…we both ate too much at this delicious meal!

If you want to aid in digestion, here are a few moves you can do to help get things moving and prevent stomach pain:

  • Do a gentle twist about 15 minutes after you’ve eaten. Twist to the right, and hold on to your chair or desk. Look over your right shoulder, and take a few deep breaths. Then repeat on the left side. This helps your internal organs function more efficiently.
  • Do a side-stretch. While sitting down, reach your right arm up over your head, and towards the left. Feel a stretch in the right side of your body, and breathe for 3 breaths. Repeat on the left side.
  • Clasp your hands overhead, reaching towards the ceiling, and gently arch your low back to stretch out the front of your body.
