Quiz: What Compliments Say About You + New Promo Vid!

In honor of National Compliment Day (yesterday!), we’re talking about how you receive compliments and what they say about you!

1. When someone compliments you, do you say, “Thank You” and not really believe it, do you start making excuses for how the compliment is not true, or do you flat our refuse the compliment?
2. When someone compliments you, do you feel embarrassed?
3. When someone compliments you, does it totally make your day?
4. When someone compliments you, do you wonder why they are saying something nice to you?

Reflect on your answers for a moment.

Now, here’s what your answers may mean:
1. If you don’t really believe the compliment, analyze why. Are you too hard on yourself? If you start making excuses for the compliment or discount it, how would your confidence increase if you actually believed it? Is your confident self not shining through more often because you actually don’t feel confident about this compliment? Finally, if you refuse the compliment – how dare you! You’re taking away someone ability to give you a gift of kind words – why is it up to you whether or not that person is correct? People feel good when they make others feel good, so instead of turning away the gift of the compliment, simply say, “Thank You” and work on why your first reaction is to not want to receive it.

2. If you feel embarrassed, why is that? Are you being complimented on a part of you that was in hiding or you didn’t think was visible? Why don’t you want this part to be visible or complimented?

3. If compliments totally make your day, do you feel like you don’t have enough internal compliments (read: positive self talk!) going on so you need to find your validation from an outside source?

4. If you wonder how on earth someone would say something nice to you, what about yourself are you not valuing? Why is someone else worthy of a compliment, but you are not?

And also, here’s another new promo video for the new TV show I’m a part of!

Behind the Scenes TV Show Promo

This past weekend we filmed Week 2 of the new reality TV show “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is!” As you know, I’m one of 8 trainers on the show, and I’m helping my fab client Marissa lose 30% of her body weight!

Here’s the promo video, airing on NBC!

"I Just Had the Most Amazing Day with Stephanie!"

Last weekend I had the honor of working with a client for a One Day Intensive. One Day Intensives are held in my home and include 3 months of continued coaching! Here’s what my client had to say:

I love One Day Intensives with clients because they really allow us time to dig deep to fundamental beliefs and self-sabotaging techniques that you may have been using your whole life to prevent you from sticking to a workout or eating plan. We also get to dive into what makes you tick, create the COOLEST playlist ever, and take videos of your workout and yoga session so that you have a plan to do on your own once we’re done!

Oh, and did I mention the 3 months of follow up coaching? I love this program!

Don’t Waste Your $ On a Personal Trainer!

Recently my client and I were interviewed for an article on MSN! You can read the full article HERE.

The article talks about mental barriers to being healthy and fit, and why wellness coaches are a new trend in health and fitness. As a body image & confidence coach, I specifically address these emotional issues and mental barriers so that you are excited and motivated to work out and eat healthy, FOR LIFE!

Here’s a quote from me: “Coaches want to know what drives you to follow through with the workouts on your own, how you feel when you eat junk food, what you think when you see yourself in the mirror. They ask probing questions to get to the bottom of why you’re not sticking to the plan. And then they work with you to re-engineer your thinking and behaviors to help you stay on track.”

Here’s a quote from my client: “As Stephanie was busting my chops making me work hard physically, she was also talking to me and challenging me to look at myself in new and different ways,” says Ahuja, who met with Mansour two or three times a week in addition to a weekly phone consultation. “I would talk about my ab muscles being dead and she would tell me that they were just sleeping, and that it was time to wake them back up. She completely changed my mental outlook. The effects of the C-sections weren’t something I consciously dwelled on, but it was clear I was carrying a lot of emotional baggage from them.”

Does this next part remind you of how YOU would be during a coaching call with me?! 🙂

When Ahuja dialed in for one of her first phone consultations with Mansour, she already had a plan for the chat. “I’m a bit type A and I had the agenda we would follow in mind. I thought ‘I’m going to share X, Y, and Z,'” she says. “I don’t even remember the exact question she asked me, but somehow I started talking about the C-sections scar and how my stomach looked and suddenly I was in tears. Everyone has mental barriers but until someone can relate to you and help you break through that barrier, you’re not going to meet your goal—and I hadn’t.”

Also, I’m happy to announce that as of now, I have a few Diamond & One Day Intensive spots open! If you’re interested in working with me, email Steph@StepItUpwithSteph.com to see if we are a good fit.

Why You’re Wasting Time at the Gym

Newsflash: You may be wasting your time at the gym! And who has time to waste? Below are a few signs that you’re wasting time at the gym:

– You’ve been doing the same routine since Jan. 1st and haven’t seen any results.

– You’re gym time is cutting in to your other commitments, and you hate it.

– You still feel like going to the gym is a drag and a burden, and just can’t wait for it to be over.

Those are just a few ways to know if you’re wasting your time. And here are some ways to QUIT wasting your time, and get excited to work out:

– Intersperse cardio with weights! Do circuit and interval training. Do NOT stay on the elyptical for 30 minutes at the same pace! You need to build muscle in order to burn fat while you’re sleeping – focus more on getting an all around good workout and becoming out of breath rather than focusing on the calories on the machine.

– Look at yourself in the mirror while working out, and say positive affirmations to yourself, such as, “UGH! My arms look AWESOME!” or “My body is working so efficiently right now!”

– Make sure you have a playlist that you LOVE – for my Diamond and One Day clients, I custom create a playlist for them. We integrate their own positive affirmations, and then their favorite song comes on right after! Contact me if you want more info on this!

– Spice it up – seek out a trainer, coach, or a new workout plan if you are bored at the gym. Change is good, so Step It Up!

New Year’s Resolutions’ Solutions

Yes, you read that right! I’ve got solutions to your resolutions – here’s how to fool-proof your NY Res this year:

  • Set a clear and sustainable goal! If you haven’t worked out in 5 years, don’t think that you’re going to hit the gym 5 days, every single day of the week! If this is the case, you should look into getting a trainer or an accountability partner. Do not set yourself up for defeat by aiming too high when it comes to working out. You want to ease into a habit, so clearly state your goal and make sure it is sustainable!
  • Keep track daily of how you are doing with your goal. Keep a checklist, spreadsheet, or even check in on Facebook! Announce your goal on social media and watch the support and accountability flood in. Notice what’s working, and what’s not, and don’t be afraid to tweak what you’re doing to reach your goal.
  • Get a success group! Whether it’s a family member, an online community, or even just a success journal, keep track of your successes daily. Share your progress and your triumphs (only positives!!) with this group or journal

How to Fit In a Workout on Christmas

Working out on Christmas Eve and Christmas is a total mental game. In fact, I’m challenging you to mentally Step It Up with these tips to get your head in gear for a workout:

  • Lay out your workout clothes next to your closet. Workout first thing in the morning and plant the seed the night before that yes, you will be working out, and that’s why our workout clothes are out.
  • Make it quick. If you have time for an hour at the gym, awesome! If not, make this a quick workout. The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day workouts are all about establishing a HABIT and getting your brain used to the ease of taking a break to work out.
  • Bring a family member! Add someone different to your routine and help make working out more fun. Do the same things at the gym, or do something totally different, or play football on the wii. Anything you can do with someone else that is active counts as exercise!

If you’re still feeling mentally blocked, don’t go into 2012 with excess mental baggage! Check out my:
