How to Set Summer Fitness Goals (As seen on ABC 7 Chicago)

We’re over halfway through the year, so it’s a perfect time to re-asses your health and fitness goals!

Often times we make a New Year resolution and it fades away within a month or two. Now that we’re more than halfway to 2020 it’s time to take a step back and think about where we want to be when the New Year rolls around. Deciding what you want your year to focus on can be difficult when it’s dreary outside! That’s why I look at the Summer as a perfect time to take a step back and asses where you are and where you want to be. If you’re interested in my favorite tips and tricks to reset your health goals that I shared with ABC Chicago, click here!

How Personal Trainers Stay in Shape (as seen on NBC NEWS BETTER)

One question my personal weight loss clients are always asking me is what I do to stay in shape and maintain my healthy lifestyle. They’re always shocked to learn how many workouts I do in the comfort of my own home, or wherever I’m traveling!

Staying motivated fitness wise is easy when you’re enjoying what you’re doing. I always encourage my clients to do exercises that they have fun doing! About a year ago I started learning how to play tennis and found out that I loved it. I enjoy myself so much when I’m playing tennis that I forget about how great of a workout I’m getting.

Another trick I do to stay in shape is to do things that make myself feel good. Every week I make sure to squeeze in Pilates classes, tennis, and massages along with my traditional workouts. These are the parts of my workout routine that really help to clear my mind and do good for my body! Pilates classes are some of my favorites to take because of how great they are for my back.

Weight Loss Help: Personal Training for Women vs. Men

Chicago weight loss coach for women Stephanie Mansour helps women lose weight fast and make it last.

Equinox’s best personal trainer Dennis Rittenhouse joins Steph to talk about the difference he sees in his female clients compared to his male clients:

Do you feel too “manly” in your workouts? Or do you wonder why certain exercises make you bulky instead of toned?

Up next in our “Step It Up with Steph” web series is my interview with personal trainer Dennis Rittenhouse from Equinox!

Dennis actually has trained me, and I LOVE his training style. I’ve seen him with various clients who have diverse body shapes and sizes — both women and men.

He also trains himself and gets a different body composition based on the season and what he wants for himself.

In my interview with Dennis, we talked about the difference between men’s and women’s goals. I specialize in helping women make changes to their body that last, and get that sleek and toned look. Men typically want a different physique, and typically have a different approach to their weight loss and fitness goals.

How are men’s fitness goals different from women’s fitness goals? How can you reach your fitness goals, and what do women need to do to lose weight differently than how men need to lose weight?

Watch how Dennis Rittenhouse from Equinox shows Stephanie how he adjusts his personal training workouts for men compared to women!

Quick Fat Blasting Tips

Change up your cardio.

– Look at your cardio workout in intervals: sprint as fast as you can for a minute, then back off but increase your incline. If you’re on the elliptical, increase resistance, then pick up the pace for a few minutes.

– If you are in love with the treadmill, instead of walking for a few minutes to warm up, try out the bike or another cardio machine for your warm up and to move your muscles differently. Muscles have memory and soon, they will be conditioned to your favorite form of cardio. Avoid this by making your muscles guess what’s coming next!

Change up your full body workout.

– Accustomed to doing cardio then weights, or vice versa? If you implement intervals into your cardio (see above), you can do one interval, lift some arm weights or do leg exercises, then jump back into cardio.

– Moving from one exercise to another not only keeps your body guessing, but it also ensures that you’re burning more calories by moving continuously, rather than busting it on cardio and taking your time doing weights.

Pull your abs in 24/7!

– You can literally workout ANYWHERE, ANYTIME with this fat blasting tip!

– Pull your belly button in towards your spine, act like you are squeezing into a tight pair of pants, and try to flatten your belly right below your belly button.

– Engage your core to gain stability, to feel tighter, and to look smaller along your waistline.

Cut back on dairy and gluten foods.

– A lot of people are lactose intolerant and don’t even know it! After eating dairy products, a lot of us feel bloated and even lethargic. Similarly, a lot of wheat products leave us feeling like our stomach is a balloon that uncontrollably expands!

– Try reducing or eliminating your dairy and gluten intake. Many carbs now say “gluten free” if they are, as well as dairy products.

– If you eat ice cream, there is ice cream made with coconut milk. If you love milk, try rice or soy milk. If you crave cheese, try eating a protein and vegetable snack, imagining how you feel after eating cheese. That may be enough to talk yourself out of wanting it!

Easy Cellulite Blasting Tips

When bathing suit season rolls around, many women start to worry about their cellulite. Here are some easy cellulite blasting tips to lift, tighten, and tone your butt and upper thighs:

-Standing with feet as wide as your hips, engage your abs and point your right toe behind you. Slowly lift your straight right leg up a few inches, and then tap back down. Engage your lower glute and upper hamstring and lift up and down. Repeat this 20 times.

-On your hands and knees, point your right leg back, keeping it straight, and slowly lift it up to the level of your hip, then lower down. Repeat 20 times working the same area: lower glute and upper hamstring.

-Lunges: Step one foot forward and one food back. Bend the front knee directly over the front ankle, and bend the back knee straight down towards the ground. Press the front heel into the ground to stand up. By pressing down with the front heel (instead of the toes), you’re activating the upper hamstring and glutes, and also avoiding knee injury. Repeat 20 times per leg.

-Lying on your stomach, legs up towards the ceiling. Straighten your legs, and slowly lower them down a couple of inches, being sure to keep your abs engaged. Squeeze your inner thighs together, squeeze your butt, turn your toes out and quickly clap your heals together. Repeat 20 times, squeezing your hamstrings and butt muscles. You can repeat this exercise while lying on your stomach, with your legs straightened behind you. Lift them up off of the ground, squeeze, and clap.

If you’re looking to change your lifestyle, my 30 Day Workbook can help.  Women everywhere use it as a guide to Step It Up!
