Yoga Workout for Traveling (as seen in the Chicago sun times)

If you’re like many of my private weight loss clients, traveling is in your job description. Whether you’re traveling for work, play, or something in between it’s important to not lose track of your fitness goals!

When you travel you assume you’re going to wreck your fitness plans, but this isn’t always the case! In reality, you don’t even need a gym to squeeze in a workout while you’re in a hotel room. I created a workout for my column ‘Exercise Well with Stephanie Mansour’ that could be done entirely on bath towel if you’re traveling! This workout is based around the principle of keeping your body in motion for 15 minutes a day as well as getting a great night of sleep.

De-Stressing With a Workout (As seen on HLN)

Long hours at the gym aren’t always a bad thing, but they don’t always get you the results you’re going after. If you’ve been putting in the work at the gym and haven’t seen the results you’re after then it may be time to take a different approach.

SUMMER SLIM DOWN

Wait. What? You can relax and work out at the same time. Watch the next installment of our slim down series.

Many of my private weight loss clients go to the gym after a long, stressful day of work. While there isn’t a law against working while you’re stressed out, if you’re dealing with high stress levels then exercises like yoga and pilates may be more beneficial for you. You’ll be working out and also lowering your stress levels! You’ll also be balancing out your body, meaning you can go back to work less stressed than when you left.

I shared some of my favorite de-stressing yoga and pilates moves with HLN. To see the segment, click here!

Yoga Poses to Help You Sleep (As Seen on NBC News Better)

If you have trouble falling asleep at night, you’re not alone! Many of my private weight loss clients (and myself at times) also struggle with this. What many people don’t realize, however, is that stress is the reason they are struggling to fall asleep!

Doing yoga before you go to bed can help you to fall asleep faster because of the way the poses can help to calm your nervous system. Dr. Kenneth Lee, Assistant Professor of Sleep Medicine and Neurology at the University of Chicago Medical Center, notes that doing yoga not only helps you to fall asleep faster but also improves the quality of sleep you’ll have. If you would like to fall asleep faster and have a better quality of sleep, make sure you see these 6 yoga poses I shared with NBC News Better! Click here.

Have you been out of the gym for a while?

Struggling with working out on a consistent basis? Don’t beat yourself up over it, it happens to all of us! Check out this article from NBC where I highlight six mental “tricks” you can employ to get back in the exercise habit.

Slide Into A New Move

I gave my input on these sliding hamstring curls that Blake Lively’s trainer uses to sculpt and strengthen client’s lower bodies.

Check it out here to learn how to execute the move safely and with correct form. (Bonus! It totally works your core at the same time!)

Or if that move seems a little too intense right now, try out this low-impact, at-home cardio circuit that Octavia Spencer is currently using to stay healthy.

Hiit up that cardio here.

Yoga? I’m down, dog!

Do you totally love all things yoga, but worry that it isn’t enough of a workout to help you reach your fitness goals? I’ve got good news! I wrote two articles for Today , the first outlines a few sneaky ways you can kick your flow up a notch and burn extra calories! The second gives five hacks for squeezing movement into your otherwise busy schedule.

Click here for Yoga. I recommend yoga to all my clients and even include a yoga workout on my Step It Up With Steph DVD.

Fitness & Physical Intimacy

Being consistent in the gym can lead to reduced stress which, in turn, can lead to being more consistent in the bedroom. Natural Awakenings put together a whole piece on the effects of fitness on both male and female libidos.

Check out my contribution to that article here.

Take Advantage of the Heat in Your Yoga Practice

With the temperatures so high, it’s easy to feel lethargic and like you don’t want to do your regular practice. However, try opening up tight areas by utilizing the heat to go deeper into your postures:

– Twists are a great thing to do when it’s hot out. You’ll be able to more deeply “wring” out your internal organs and loosen up your spine. The heat makes your muscles more flexible.

– Go deeper into your forward folds. The heat will help tight low back muscles and hamstrings loosen up, so you can feel sensations you may not feel in the winter.

– Open up your chest and sides of your waist slowly, and hold the poses here a little longer to really get into the smaller muscles and origin and insertion points of the muscles.

How to Help Your Mom Work Out on Mother’s Day

Does your mom enjoy working out, or do you wish she’d spend more time at the gym for her own health? Here are some fun workout tips for Mother’s Day:

-Invite your mom to a fitness class or just take her to the gym with you. Introduce her to the equipment, help her learn new moves, or even hire a personal trainer to give her a session or two.

-Buy your mom a workout DVD and follow along with her – working out together may remind her how working out can be fun!

-Buy your mom a cute workout top, then teach her workouts she can do at home in the comfort of her living room, such as yoga poses or Pilates moves.

-Hire an in-home yoga instructor to come see your mom and give her a completely customized and personal yoga class.

How To Make Moving a Workout

I’m Stepping It Up and moving to a new luxurious apartment downtown! If you’ve ever moved before, you know that moving can cause many injuries and back pain. But in this video, I’m going to show you how random Chicagoans are turning moving into a workout!

What Does Chicago Eat For Lunch?

Watch as I Take It To the Streets to see what random Chicagoans are eating for lunch on Fridays! They’ve all got one thing on common – it’s considered a “cheat” day…

You know how much I despise labeling days like this! So make sure that just because it’s Friday, you are still making your food choices independent of each other, and totally dependent upon what you want and how your food will make you feel! 🙂

Elevator Stretches
