One of the questions I ask my private weight loss clients when we begin working together is what their BMI (body mass index) is. When they answer, I always explain that this isn’t the determining factor to if they are overweight. Once you begin working out, your body starts to build muscle. This muscle is much more dense than body fat. So even though once you begin working out your clothes will be fitting better, your number on the scale may stay the same or go up. Your body mass index might even go up! It’s important to remember that as long as you’re exercising and eating healthy, you don’t need to focus on your body mass index.
