You don’t need any fancy equipment to build core strength. In fact, bodyweight exercises alone are enough to strengthen your core and tone your midsection. But if you’re looking to add a bit of a challenge to your routine grab a dumbbell!
A great one to try is the dumbbell burpee. Burpees require a lot of energy and engage your full body, and in this variation it activates your core even more. For the dumbbell burpee, start in a standing position and hold the dumbbell in your right hand, letting it hang by your side. Perform a squat, and as you return to standing, press the dumbbell up over your head into an overhead press. Then, bend the knees and place your hands on the ground (your left hand will be on the ground, your right hand will hold on to the dumbbell which will rest on the ground) and hop or step your feet back to plank. Then step or jump your feet towards your hands, slide the weight to the left and pick it up with your left hand, and return to standing. Repeat on the left side. Repeat this 5 times on each side.
